Pamela Carey Faw has been St. Hilary's music teacher and children's choir director since 1998, and is the parish's Director of Music today. She is a violinist first: she moved to Marin County in 1979 to attend Dominican College, where she earned a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music in violin performance, and she has worked as a freelance violinist internationally, nationally and with groups around the Bay Area, and has been concertmaster of The Lamplighters, the Saint Catherine's Orchestra and Contra Costa Musical Theater. Born in Phoenix, Arizona, where she attended Catholic schools from fourth grade through high school, she has taught in the Archdiocese of San Francisco since 1984, and taught music and led the children's Masses at Saint Anselm in Ross, Our Lady of Loretto in Novato and Saint Rita in Fairfax along the way. She spent eighteen years on the Archdiocesan Choral Festival Committee and chaired it for ten of them. She is also the school's music teacher, listed with the specialty teachers on the 2026-27 faculty roster. A single weekend of parish music covers almost the whole range of Catholic practice: the published schedule pairs Catholic contemporary and traditional music with the Schola at the Saturday vigil, contemporary praise and worship at the three Sunday Masses, and a 7:30 a.m. Sunday Mass listed as a quiet Mass with no music at all. The quotation she chose for her staff profile is Henry Van Dyke's — that the woods would be very silent if the only birds singing were the ones that sang best.
